In less than 25 years, the region of Murcia has gone from being a purely emigrant area to becoming one of the places with the highest proportion of immigrant population in Spain. During the 1980s and 1990s, growth was slow and sustained, but by the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century it intensified beyond much of the population growth forecast. The research analyses the evolution of the phenomenon of external immigration in the Region of Murcia, especially those coming from eastern Europe: its distribution in the territory, its demographic characteristics, socio-economic employment, etc., as well as their perception of the host society.
