Summary, etc. À la croisée de l’histoire urbaine, de l’histoire de la colonisation et de l’histoire économique et sociale, cet ouvrage étudie la croissance de la ville de Tripoli en Libye pendant la colonisation italienne de 1911 à 1943. Fondé sur l’exploitation d’une importante masse archivistique et documentaire en grande partie inédite et conservée en Libye, il se propose d’analyser les facteurs économiques et politiques de cette évolution et d’en observer les effets sociaux et politiques. La transformation de Tripoli est en effet concomitante de son poids démographique croissant, faisant de la répartition de la population en fonction des catégories sociales et ethniques un des enjeux centraux du pouvoir colonial. À travers le cas de Tripoli, il s’agit ainsi de procéder à une analyse fine des modes de domination coloniale italiens et de contribuer à une nouvelle histoire de l’État italien par le biais de son outre-mer.
